MediaSmarts is gearing up for the 19th annual Media Literacy Week, taking place October 21 to 25. Along with a series of other events and resources, we are excited to announce this year’s research event hosted by the Internet, Technology and Digital Sociology cluster of the Canadian Sociological Association: Experiences Researching Artificial Intelligence Literacy. 
This online panel discussion will take place on October 23rd from 11:00am-12:00pm EDT.

Join @MediaSmarts and @ITDS on October 23rd for a virtual event on experiences researching AI Literacy. 


This diverse panel of researchers, from across the Canadian academic landscape, will discuss the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in mediating interaction, especially conflict and harm.

Panelists will highlight:

  • The role of ‘deep fake’ images and image based sexual abuse
  • New forms of ‘crime with AI’
  • The recency of this emerging area of research
  • Opportunities and challenges when researching AI (both theoretical and methodological)
  • How to communicate issues related to AI that foster AI literacy and possibly avoid influencing moral panics about these technologies.
