The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) acknowledges that UPEI is located on the unceded land of the Mi’kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk. We welcome applications for a tenure-track position in Sociology. This position opens at a dynamic time in the Department as we just developed thematic streams of focus operating in conjunction with the University’s strategic and academic priorities. We aim to intensify interdisciplinary linkages across the campus, including Faculty of Arts programs in Diversity and Social Justice Studies (DSJS); Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture (ACLC); the Faculty of Science program in Environmental Studies; and\or the Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies. We are also a faculty committed to developing students as research scholars as part of their undergraduate experience. In view of this we favor experiential learning inside and outside the classroom.
The prospective candidate will be prepared to teach an introduction to sociology course and courses in the following two thematic streams of our Department: a) Inequalities: Social, Economic and Environmental and b) Health, Culture and Society. Specifically, the new hire will teach courses in Sociology of Health and/or Environmental Sociology. An ability to contribute to other thematic streams (Theory and Methods; Indigenous Worlds and Colonialism; Social Relationships, Intersectionality and Life Forms; Media, Culture and Society) would be considered an asset.
This appointment is expected to start on July 1, 2025, subject to final budgetary approval.
