Casting the Net Wide: Exploring Careers other than Faculty Positions
Organizers: Student Concerns Subcommittee
Guest: Dr. Laura Bisaillon, Assistant Professor, Interdisciplinary Centre for Health & Society at the University of Toronto Scarborough
This session begins with a brief overview of what a career as a university-based academic in Canada looks and feels like in the everyday world of practice. We then direct our attention to exploring what employment possibilities exist inside and outside the university milieu. We proceed by exploring the idea of working to ones’ strengths, while discussing the opportunities and challenges to doing so. We conclude in an active and dialogical back-and-forth aimed to give all participants the chance to take turns listening, querying and sharing ideas.
