Land Back / Land Acknowledgements: Bringing Indigenous Perspectives into the Institution

In an era of reconciliation, Indigenous-led land defences and institutional approaches to Indigenization, it is important to have a plurality of perspectives and theorizations. Indigenous voices remain important as the complexity and relevance of land acknowledgements continue to be debated in universities across Indigenous territories. This webinar facilitates a conversation about Indigenous sovereignty, stewardship and land acknowledgements in the university and where we go from here.

Hayden King

Hayden King is Anishinaabe from Beausoleil First Nation on Gchi’mnissing. Hayden is the Executive Director at Yellowhead Institute at X University in Toronto and has taught at McMaster and Carleton Universities as well as the First Nations Technical Institute. Hayden has held senior fellowships at Massey College and the Conference Board of Canada, and served in advisory roles to provincial, territorial and First Nation governments and Inuit organizations. His writing, analysis and commentary on Indigenous politics and policy is published widely.

Courtney Skye

Courtney Skye (she/her) is Mohawk, Turtle Clan, from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. She is a Research Fellow at Yellowhead Institute, a First Nations-led governance think tank at the Faculty of Arts at X University.
